{"id":1384,"date":"2026-05-21T00:22:39","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T21:22:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/capitals.uralic.org\/?p=1384"},"modified":"2026-05-21T00:22:39","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T21:22:39","slug":"two-candidates-compete-for-finno-ugric-capital-of-culture-2027-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/capitals.uralic.org\/et\/news\/two-candidates-compete-for-finno-ugric-capital-of-culture-2027-title\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Candidates Compete for Finno-Ugric Capital of Culture 2027 Title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Secretariat of Finno-Ugric Capitals of Culture has received two eligible applications for the title of Finno-Ugric Capital of Culture 2027:<\/p>\n<p>1) GERESDLAK village (Baranya County, HUNGARY)<\/p>\n<p>2) KREEVINIMAA region (Jaunsaule-Vecsaule and Bauska, LATVIA)<\/p>\n<p>The independent 5-member international jury will begin its deliberations and the name of Finno-Ugric Capital of Culture 2027 will be announced on June 20 in Hancock (Michigan, USA) during the Juhannus Summer Solstice Celebration.<br \/>\nLet us recall that the title of Finno-Ugric Capital of Culture was held in Hungary in 2016 when, only once during the history of the programme, the title was shared by two locations: the city of Veszpr\u00e9m and the village of Iszkaszentgy\u00f6rgy.<\/p>\n<p>Also, this is the first time when we have received an application from Latvia.<\/p>\n<p>On behalf of the Secretariat, we thank both applicants for keeping this Finno-Ugric programme evolving in new and exciting directions.
