Hancock’s year as Finno-Ugric Capital of Culture 2026 will raise awareness of Finnish American cultural heritage worldwide, and will bring a rich Finno-Ugric cultural programme to Hancock and the surrounding Copper County.
The cultural capital year in Hancock began on 24 January, when the Tsirk bird – symbol of the Finno-Ugric Capitals of Culture program – was officially handed over to Hancock.
The flagship event of the year will be Juhannus – the traditional mid-summer celebration in Finnish style, and this year, on 20 June, with a special Finno-Ugric touch!
