Two Candidates Compete for Finno-Ugric Capital of Culture 2027 Title

Secretariat of Finno-Ugric Capitals of Culture has received two eligible applications for the title of Finno-Ugric Capital of Culture 2027:

1) GERESDLAK village (Baranya County, HUNGARY)

2) KREEVINIMAA region (Jaunsaule-Vecsaule and Bauska, LATVIA)

The independent 5-member international jury will begin its deliberations and the name of Finno-Ugric Capital of Culture 2027 will be announced on June 20 in Hancock (Michigan, USA) during the Juhannus Summer Solstice Celebration.
Let us recall that the title of Finno-Ugric Capital of Culture was held in Hungary in 2016 when, only once during the history of the programme, the title was shared by two locations: the city of Veszprém and the village of Iszkaszentgyörgy.

Also, this is the first time when we have received an application from Latvia.

On behalf of the Secretariat, we thank both applicants for keeping this Finno-Ugric programme evolving in new and exciting directions. Both of you have already made a contribution to the Finno-Ugric movement!
